Student: Submit Master's thesis in Studentweb
Starting from November 2023, Master's Thesis will be submitted on vurdering.uib.no.
Have this ready before you start your submission
- Your UiB username and password. You have to sign in to Studentweb using this, not your personal number
- Thesis title: The title you put in will be on your transcript, diploma and in BORA. Note that the title does not support rich formatting.
- Summary, if you want it published in BORA
- Your thesis in PDF format. Attachments do not have to be in PDF format. (Master’s thesis at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Medicine: Please upload your thesis in a single file, in PDF format. Any attachments should be included in this file.)
- You can submit the original file(s) but this is not required. By original files we mean the thesis as it was written before converstion to PDF. E.g. a .docx file. (Faculty of Medicine: Please do not upload any original files.)
- Note where on your computer the relevant file(s) are stored.
- Start the submission well ahead of the deadline. It can take some time to input the summary and upload the files.
- Group thesis? Everyone who has written a group thesis need do submit individually in Studentweb. Remember to check the box for group submission.
You can edit and resubmit until the deadline.
How to submit in Studentweb
Log into Studentweb with UiB username and password Links to an external site.

- Click "More" on the header and chose "Thesis submission".
The option will only be available if you in this semester
- are registered
- have paid the semester fee
- are enrolled for examination in the thesis course
On the front page of the thesis submission page you will be reminded of everything you need to have ready before you should start the submission. You click the green button for begin submission when you have everything ready.
Input information about your thesis
- Input the language the thesis is written in
- Tick the box if you are submitting a group submission
- Imput the title of your thesis. It will appear on the transcript, diploma and in BORA. Note that the title does not support rich formatting.
- Write the title in English. It will appear on your English transcript. Note that the title does not support rich formatting.
- Write a summary if you want it available in BORA
- Write key words that describe your thesis. Use commas (,) as seperators, e.g. "inflation, economic crisis". The key words will be searchable in BORA and will make it easier to find.
Click the green continue button.
Upload file(s)
- Click the button "choose file"
- Attach the correct version of your master's thesis. You have to upload it as a PDF. You can only attach one thesis document.
- You can add additional attachments that are relevant for the thesis, and eventual original files (Word, LaTex, Open Office etc.). Master’s thesis at the Faculty of Medicine: Please upload your thesis in a single file, in PDF format. Any attachments should be included in this file.
- If you uploaded the wrong file you can delete it using the "Delete file" button.
Click the green "Continue" button when you are done.
Determine availability
If you make your thesis available in BORA it will become searchable and available on the Internet. If you chose to not make your thesis available no information will be available.
- Choose if your thesis and eventual attachments should be available in BORA.
- Tick the box if your thesis should be restricted due to confidentialiy.
- Original files will not be available in BORA.
- Failed theses will not be available in BORA.
- Tick the box confirming that you have read the Agreement for making your thesis available in BORA
Click the green "Continue" button when ready.
Review and confirm submission
- Review and verify that the information provides is correct. The page will show you an overview of the registered information.
- If something is wrong, click the "Back" button to get back to the page you want to edit.
- When everything is correct, click the "Complete" button. This will submit your thesis and provided information to UiB.
Confirmation
You will also get a confirmation to your email.
You will only get a confirmation email the first time you submit. If you edit your submission and make changes, you will not receive a new confirmation. If you delete your submission and resubmit you will receive a new confirmation.
As pictured, the confirmation page displays the information of submission including the date and time.
Editing, changing and deleting until the deadline
When you have submitted your thesis you can make changes, edit and delete your submission until the deadline. You will be able to make changes by accessing the "Thesis submission" pane as described above.
