Your UiB profile, social media and profile photos

Your UiB profile page

We also recommend keeping your UiB profile page updated, as it ranks highly on Google so is one of the first pages people find when searching for you. It is a good complement to a publishing record, as it allows you to provide more information - for instance, you can add a research statement and information about your teaching, projects, mentoring, leadership, and communication and outreach work. The importance of these activities is highlighted in suggested reforms to researcher evaluation.

You can link from your UiB profile to your ORCID (and many other accounts) making it easy for people to find you across platforms - your UiB page can be a "central hub" for your online presence. Go to UiBs Brand Guide for an overview of features and guidance on how to edit it.

Academic social media and other communication

There are also academic social media services, such as ResearchGate, Loop or Academia.edu, plus social media (e.g. X). These are not very suitable for keeping an authoritative publication record or author disambiguation; however, they can be good for sharing your work, connecting with other researchers, following projects and improving your visibility.

Profile photos

Adding a profile photo can make your profiles more recognisable and personal. The Communications Department recommends that it should be in portrait format, with a light background, and should contain only yourself, looking into the camera.

For professional portraits - UiB has existing agreements with photographers, and some departments may have an internal photography service. Check the "Resources" section of UiB's Brand Guide .
