Section 1 - Purpose of a CV

The main purpose of the non-academic CV is getting you to the interview.

In English we talk about the industry as everything that is not academic, both public, private, and civil sector. In Norway, we differentiate more between private (business), public (offentlig), and civil (frivillig sektor, NGOs) sector, but for all practical purposes we use industry in this course.

When we talk about CV and getting a non-academic job, we talk about the personal snapshot of your competence, abilities, and credentials suitable for the job. We do not talk about the master CV of all your experience through life. And, we are not talking about a job, but the specific job at hand. As you would never submit a generic pre-written answer to an exam, you should never send a generic CV to an employer.
