The thesis must: 

- represent an independent and comprehensive piece of scientific work of high academic standard

- be of high academic standard with regard to the formulation of the research topic, conceptual clarity, formal presentation, ethical considerations, and the use of methods, theories and empirical material

- have material and methods applied that are relevant to the questions raised

- have arguments and conclusions posited that are tenable

- contribute to new knowledge in the discipline and hold an academic standard appropriate for publication in the scientific literature of the field
