IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG - SUPERVISION

If a PhD candidate or her/his supervisor finds that the other party is not fulfilling its obligations as specified in the PhD regulations, the candidate or the supervisor may request to be released from the agreement.

The supervisor may not withdraw from the supervision relationship until a new supervisor has been appointed.

Conflicts regarding the supervisors and the PhD candidate's academic rights and obligations may be brought by the parties to the Faculty in question, for discussion and a decision. The Faculty's decision may be appealed to the Central Appeals Committee.

Generally, one should always seek to resolve conflicts at the lowest possible level. Cases concerning termination of supervision should always first be discussed at the candidate’s department. If the matter cannot be resolved by the department alone, the case may be transferred to the faculty.

If a conflict should arise, it is recommended that the matter is brought to the attention of the Head of Research or Head of the Department at the respective department at an early stage. It is also recommended to document all communication in the matter.
