WORKING ENVIRONMENT ACT
New in Norway?
If you moved to Norway recently, it is important to note that employees in Norway are regulated by the Working Environment Act. Most PhD candidates are employed in a research fellow position at the faculty or elsewhere. That means:
- You cannot require that the candidate work more than 40 hours a week
- Candidates have 25 working days of holiday each year
- All employees are entitled to take leave in connection with pregnancy, care in connection with birth, births and parental leave.
- All employees are entitled to self-declared sick leave, i.e. to notify the employer that you are unable to work due to illness without having to present a medical certificate.
- It is not allowed to discriminate on the basis of gender / pregnancy.
