Purpose
The training component shall provide scientific and methodological training that is beneficial for work on the thesis, and which qualifies the candidates for professions requiring a high level of scientific and analytical insight. The training component also provides training in academic dissemination towards colleagues, students and the general public.
Structure
The training component must involve activities equivalent to at least 30 credits (ECTS), i.e. at least six months’ work.
The training component at the Faculty of Social Sciences shall consist of the following compulsory components:
- Philosophy and Ethics of Social Sciences, 7,5-10 credits
- Methodology, at least 5 credits
- Academic theory, at least 5 credits
- Academic dissemination, 3-5 credits

In total, the training component must comprise at least 30 credits. The training component for candidates affiliated with the Department of Economics comprises 60 credits and more fixed course requirements.
