ADMISSION - HOW?
Depending on which group the candidate belongs to, there are different procedures for admission. The main supervisor is involved in the admission process, but in different ways.
Employed at the faculty |

Employed elsewhere or a PhD student with scholarship |
Applicants for research fellowships are assessed by a committee. A potential main supervisor is contacted during the process. Applicants who are offered employment in a research fellowship position at the Faculty of Social Sciences are also evaluated for admission by the PhD coordinator during the process. Applicants will therefore only be offered the position if they are approved for admission to the PhD programme.

|
Applicants with an employer other than the Faculty of Social Sciences, or a scholarship, must apply for admission. Before applying to the faculty, the applicant must contact the relevant department and ask for a main supervisor. With a recommendation letter from a main supervisor, the applicant is ready to apply for admission.

The application will be assessed by the relevant department. The Head of Department or his/her proxy makes the recommendation. If the department finds that the application meets sufficient academic standards, meets the formal requirements for admission, and that the project is feasible within the time limits of the programme, the department will forward the application with the Head of Department’s recommendation to the faculty. Admission decisions are issued by the Dean of the faculty.
