Shortly after admission, the department will invite the PhD candidate for a start-up meeting. Both main supervisor and any co-supervisor(s) should attend the meeting, as well as the Head of Department, the academic and the administrative PhD coordinator at the department.
The meeting has several purposes:
- clarify the candidate’s and supervisors’ expectations to supervision
- clarify the frequency of academic supervision
- discuss the distribution of responsibility between the supervisors
- set a preliminary date for the midway evaluation
- plan for any required teaching duties
- plan for the training component
- talk about affiliation to the research community

Note that the start-up meeting is for all groups of PhD candidates, not just for candidates employed at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
