It is important to think and act user friendly and make sure that the students find information and learning material in a simple and clear way.

Are there any traps to avoid?

It may be a good idea to hide the page and file layers, and rather to disseminate the content using links on content pages and modules. File storage is often used for this and that . There are documents that the students should have access to, as well as pictures and other materials that should be included as elements on the content pages. It can quickly become confusing and difficult to navigate.

It is also advantageous to use content pages rather than files for easily copyable and scroll-friendly content. Content pages are the natural viewing medium in Mitt UiB, and display smoothly. It is perfectly okay to give the students files, but they must be previewed and often downloaded. So use content pages as often as possible.

What are your best tips for educators in using the learning platform?

I like the module feature because it allows you to sort content by theme or time period. It is usually better than sorting by function - that is, students have to go to discussions to find discussions, files for files, and so on. The more modules you use, the more features you can remove from the navigation menu. Again, it's about ease of use.

And for the slightly more advanced user?

The ability to align learning objectives and student assignments that an be very useful. Then the students will have a better understanding of what is expected of them and how their work will be assessed on. The teacher can then, in the assessment of assignments, tick off on the different points for goal achievement, instead of spending time writing this in prose for each student.

Is there anything you should be careful about in Mitt UiB?

Many people want to preview external websites, which is possible by using modules. But here it should be noted that Mitt UiB will not preview websites it perceives as unsafe. And this applies to quite a few - for example, uib.no!

The solution I recommend then is to create a content page in the editor. Here you enter the link to the site, along with a brief explanation of what it is you are linking to and why it is relevant. The external website opens up smoothly and the students know what to look for. The latter also has a positive effect on learning.
