GENERAL FIRE SAFETY INFORMATION

The Department of Biological Sciences consists of 6 academic groups with over 260 staff and 600 students. There is a great variety of different tasks performed by these different groups.
These different academic groups are located in:
Thormøhlensgate 55, BIO-blokken floor 1, 3 ,4, 5.
Thormøhlensgate 53, A-block, B-block.
 
This Fire Safety document covers several different laboratory buildings that are owned by UiB and used by BIO.
 
Active fire safety measures include:
A category 2 fire alarm system, smoke free fire escape staircases and a sprinkler system that covers all areas of all buildings.
 
Passive fire safety measures include:
Load-bearing structures are made of non-combustible materials and all buildings are divided into fire safe cells and stairwells by fire doors.
 
Fire Brigade.
The main fire station in Bergen is 5 minutes drive away and well equipped with both fire-fighting equipment and a stand-by fire crew.
 
Fire-alarms are first picked up by the Housing Department at UiB (EIA Eiendomsavdelingen område 3) and after 5 minutes ring at the fire station.
